SONORUS - The Urban Sound Planner - to plan the acoustic environment of our cities
Sonorus is the created out of a dream to plan the acoustic environment of our cities in a holistic way that it supports wellbeing and health of the people living there.
The Urban Sound Planner è unprogettoMarie CurieInitial Traning Network (ITN), finanziato dalla Commissione Europea mediante il Settimo Programma Quadro 2007-2013 (FP7 People Programme).
Principale obiettivo del progetto è, mediante la costituzione di un network di enti ed istituti di ricerca, università, amministrazioni pubbliche e imprese, formare una nuova generazione di ricercatori, capaci di adottare un approccio multidisciplinare, necessario per invertire la tendenza negativa che caratterizza l’attuale condizione dovuta all’inquinamento acustico nelle aree urbane.
E’ a tale scopo introdotta la figura professionale “Urban Sound Planner”, avente competenze tecniche nei metodi di determinazione e controllo del rumore, nel soundscaping, nella pianificazione urbanistica e nella pianificazione del traffico e capace di sviluppare e far interagire tali temi in una visione olistica e multidisciplinare.
ISPRA è partner del progetto, insieme ai seguenti enti: Chalmers Tekniska Hoegskola AB (Chalmers), Svezia, coordinatore del progetto; Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TUE), Olanda; Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli (Naples II), Italia; University of Sheffield (USFD), Regno Unito; Universiteit Gent (UGhent), Belgio; Müller-BBM GmBh (MBBM), Germania; Eidgenoessische Materialpruefungs- und Forschungsanstalt (EMPA) Svizzera; SP Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut AB (SP), Svezia.

an Initial Training Network under the FP7 People Programme.
The latin "sonorus" stays for "sounding" but there is also a similarity with "aquarius" that in Roman empire was a technician expert in water systems. At that time water in cities was synonymous with "quality of life".... nowadays "acoustic environment" have similar significance.
Sonorus is the created out of a dream to plan the acoustic environment of our cities in a holistic way that it supports wellbeing and health of the people living there.
At the very end urban sound planning should be a self-evident part of city planning.
The test sides for this dream are Rom, Berlin Antwerpen, and Brighton.
The project started in October 2012 and runs for four years. The project is coordinated by Applied Acoustics, Chalmers University of Technology.
