Abstract
Structures can be submitted to severe conditions, especially earthquakes. Strengthening of reinforced concrete structures is then a matter of concern. Externally bonded Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) are emerging as a valuable solution for structural strengthening but design rules have to be established concerning their application for seismic strengthening. For this purpose, an experimental campaign carried out on full-scale reinforced concrete (RC) columns has been undertaken. Different strengthening configurations have been applied on columns, which were then tested under combined axial and reversed cyclic lateral load. Those tests helped us to analyse the behaviour of RC columns depending on the FRP confinement (carbon FRP jacket) and on flexural reinforcement (carbon plates).
