Effect of Different Fibers on FRC Cracking Behavior Evaluated through Ring Test
The New Boundaries of Structural Concrete Session B – Controlled-performance concrete
Memoria tratta da "The New Boundaries of Structural Concrete: Session B – Controlled-performance concrete", ACI IC - Bergamo 2013
In this work the influence of different kinds of fibers on Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) cracking behavior was examined. Several FRC mixtures were prepared by alternatively using polymeric macro-fibers, glass macro-fibers, as well as hybrid or bicomponent synthetic fibers. The dosage of fibers was always equal to 0,55% by volume. Ring test according to ASTM C 1581–04 and free shrinkage test were carried out in the same exposure conditions, 21°C and 50% relative humidity. Moreover, compressive and tensile strengths of concrete were evaluated on cubic specimens up to 28 days of curing and at the time of ring cracking. This procedure enables to study the influence of concrete mixture composition on the potential for early-age cracking of concrete. Results obtained showed the effectiveness of the randomly dispersed fibers in counteracting the early cracking of fiber reinforced concrete.
