Cracking in Cement-Based Materials under Restrained Shrinkage: an Analytical Model for Crack Growth

The New Boundaries of Structural Concrete Session B – Controlled-performance concrete

Memoria tratta da "The New Boundaries of Structural Concrete: Session B – Controlled-performance concrete", ACI IC - Bergamo 2013

New advances in material science allow concrete to be designed to resist the actions induced by restrained shrinkage. However, the main material properties governing the performance of cement based materials subjected to restrained shrinkage should be better defined in order to allow structural designer to prescribe performance-based materials. Aim of this paper is to shed some more lights on the performance-based design through the presentation of an analytical model that well predicts the cracking process of concrete under restrained conditions. An experimental study is also presented to compare the predicted values with those obtained from a new test developed at the University of Brescia for plain and fiber reinforced concrete.
