Curriculum

Dr. Tubaldi joined University of Strathclyde and the Center for Intelligent Infrastructure in October 2017 as Lecturer in Structural Engineering. He holds a MEng in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Structures and Infrastructure from Polytechnic University of Marche (Italy) since April 2010. He served as Adjunct Lecturer in Structural Engineering at University of Camerino (Italy) for more than 5 years, and carried out post-doctoral research studies at Polytechnic University of Marche. In 2015, he was awarded a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship to work at Imperial College London on Flood Risk Assessment and mitigation for Masonry Arch Bridges (FRAMAB).

In his academic career, Dr. Tubaldi has carried out multidisciplinary research in the areas of analysis and design of structures and bridges, seismic isolation and vibration control, and rubber modelling. Moreover, he has developed a strong technical expertise in computational structural mechanics and probabilistic analysis of structures under different types of hazards, such as earthquakes and floods. In the PhD studies, he worked mainly on the evaluation of the seismic performance of steel-concrete composite bridges. Subsequently, he focused on the seismic reliability of structures and the effectiveness of damping and isolation devices for enhancing the seismic performance of building frames. At TARRC, he carried out experimental and numerical studies on high damping rubber bearings. At Imperial College, Dr. Tubaldi investigated the flood risk of masonry arch bridges with an innovative multi-disciplinary approach combining elements of hydrology, hydraulics, and computational mechanics. He continues his research on this topic, and he recently won the best paper prize at Structural Faults and Repair 2018 for a paper on scour risk monitoring of bridges. In December 2018, he was awarded a EU-funded SERA project called “DYMOBRIS”. Within this project, he has coordinated an international group of 11 researchers performing in-field tests on the dynamic identification of a structural system subjected to scour. He  he is co-I of a EU-funded project on Earthquake-resilient Urban Societies (TURNkey) and co-director of a cross-disciplinary Advanced Vibration Laboratory (VibLab).

He currently supervises 6 PhD students and co-supervises another one. His research has led to the publication of 33 papers in international journals and 50 conference papers, and an h index of 17 (Google scholar). His profile as an outstanding researcher is also demonstrated by the participation to several research projects, the presentation of his work at many international conferences, invited seminars and workshops, the organization of mini-symposia and chairing of conference sessions. Dr. Tubaldi is Reviewer for more than 20 international journals, and Associate Editor of 3 journals. In 2018, in recognition to his level of achievement and commitment in research, he was awarded a place at Scottish Crucible.
