840 anni fa iniziavano il lavori di costruzione della TORRE di PISA
ASCE ricorda che 840 anni fa iniziarono i lavori della torre di PISA, la torre che ha una pendenza di 3,97° rispetto all'asse verticale
ASCE - l'Associazione degli Ingegneri Civili americani , ricorda che oggi ricorre l'840esimo anniversario dell'inizio dei lavori di costruzione dellla Torre di Pisa.
La cosiddetta torre di Pisa è il campanile della Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta: alto circa 56 metri fuori terra (58,36 metri considerando il piano di fondazione)[1], costruito nell'arco di due secoli, tra il dodicesimo e il quattordicesimo secolo, pesa 14.453 tonnellate.
La sua pendenza misura 3,97° rispetto all'asse verticale, ma la torre rimane in equilibrio perché la verticale che passa per il suo baricentro cade all'interno della base di appoggio.

"The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a free-standing bell tower, or campanile, for the cathedral of the city of Pisa, Italy. Construction began in 1172, and was completed in three stages over 177 years. The tower is 183 feet from the ground to the top on the lowest side, and 186 feet on the tall side.
The tower began to sink and lean after construction began on the third floor in 1178, which seems to be due to a shallow foundation in weak, unstable soil. In 1964, the Italian government sent out a call for experts to find a way to prevent the tower from toppling, without losing its famous tilt. Many solutions were offered, including placing 800 tons of lead counterweights (left) on the non-sinking side of the tower. Eventually, straightening the tower to a safer angle was determined to be the safest option.
The tower was straightened by 18 inches in the 1990s by removing 50 cubic yards of soil from under the raised end of the tower. This reduced the lean of the tower from 5.5 degrees to 3.9 degrees."
